If you’ve been following me on Instagram then you will have no doubt seen my feline companions pop up. My beautiful Russian Blue Babies!

Growing up we always had dogs and cats, I loved them but as I got older my allergies got worse. I couldn’t give my Burmese friends big snuggles without being super dosed up on antihistamines.

When I was talking to a friend one time he mentioned that his old cat had been a Russian Blue and the breed was known for being the ‘Allergy friendly cat’. Intrigued I started researching (pretty much immediately, there is nothing worse than a cat lady without a cat) and ended up visiting a breeder and cuddling every Russian Blue I could get my hands on whilst in her home. I had no reaction! It was the most wonderful discovery.

That was when Mina came to live with me. Straight away I noticed she was more social than other cats who I had lived with before and oh so very affectionate. People have always commented,

“I don’t like Cats, but she is lovley!”

And she is lovely, she’s very intelligent and also quite sensitive. My big girl knows when I am sad or sick and will stay by my side. She runs to the door when I get home and comes when I call her to say its time for bed or dinner.

When we decided to get a little brother for her last year, she was initially not into him and then almost overnight absolutely besotted. Totoro was a fierce little man and into everything, he was about as different in personality to Mina as he could possibly be. He was still however very social and very affectionate. Cuddles with him were the best. He had endless energy and was up all hours of the night meowing and demanding love and attention.

Toto passed away very suddenly and everyone in our little family felt his loss. The house was instantly MUCH quieter. Mina spent the first week searching the house for him and staying very close to Josh and I. I had never seen her so upset and researched cat bereavement.

We moved into our new home and at the beginning of this year we decided to get a new kitten. It wasn’t something I wanted to rush into, I still miss Toto and there are moments during the day when I wonder what kind of a cat he would have grown up into but I think thats only natural. He was just at the beginning of his little life and I fell in love with his mischievous spirit.

Kansas is our newest addition and she has been settling in beautifully. Mina and her have become friends and I often walk into the room to see them snoozing together and cannot take the 100% pure Russian Blue Cuteness. I just back away slowly and try not to be too overwhelmed hehe.

Kansas is a mixture of Tonkinese and Russian Blue, my allergies are still 100% in check. She has a divine cream speckle through her coat and one cream paw. Her personality is a little bit of a mixture between Mina and Totoro! Cheeky and energetic she is very friendly and loves to come on adventures outside whilst in her little harness. She’s nowhere near as fiery as Totoro was, although we still get the early morning ruckus in the bedroom when she runs around playing with everything and anything. Mina looks at her as if if to say ‘grow up already!’

I would always recommend Russian Blue cats. They are intelligent and love to be in your company. Their beautiful double fur coat makes them extra snuggly and doesn’t shed as much as some other breeds. They are very well suited to families and small children. Russian Blue cats are the non cat persons cat, trust me.

Ahhh, they’re so beautiful! Totally amazing. <3 I love seeing other people's Russian Blues! So sad to hear about Totoro though, it's horrible to lose your cats. 🙁
