Maggie May lives in Melbourne and really enjoys designing and making things.
She is a macrame maker, graphic designer and stylist for her business, The Middle Aisle. She regularly posts on her Instagram @middleaisle about her life and being creative in Melbourne. She is passionate about working with Australian made materials and supporting local makers and craftspeople.
She only uses 100% cotton rope grown in Australia and manufactured locally, you can check out The Middle Aisle Etsy store for supplies.
After discovering Macrame Maggie immediately fell in love with the craft because of its versatility for expression and creativity. She creates ‘improvised’ macrame pieces, meaning there is no pattern to begin her designs with. The rope is cut and the piece evolves from there.
She also loves coffee, music, and cats. (More specifically she loves her cats, Mina & Kansas. Check out @middleaisle Instagram to see them doing lots of adorable things)
She’s not so keen about the third person but she’s been reliably informed by ‘the internet’ that it is the best way to write an ‘about me’ .
She’s friendly and thrives on new creative projects. If you want a person to collaborate with then she’s probably going to be excited about that!
She regularly hosts Macrame Workshops for both plant hangers and wall hangings. She encourages her students to learn the basics in her classes so they can feel confident and continue making and crafting at home. These are done all over Melbourne in a variety of places. If you would like to host a Middle Aisle Macrame Workshop then get in touch! Private Melbourne Macrame workshops are also available.
Maggie went to university and got a piece of paper to say she’s qualified to do these things, the certificate is currently bubble wrapped in a frame under her bed.
She is also an accredited Craft Victoria member.
